Bettina Drummond
English
I have known and admired Bettina Drummond for a very long time now. I have followed her equestrian journey, beginning with the 17 years passed studying by the side of Master Nuno Oliveira, the subsequent years of relentless work, years spent observing the great ecuyers of the world, those spent exchanging thoughts and experiences will all different equestrian professionals, from show riders to cowboys, judges and trainers. Broadened by these maturing counsels, yet affirming her own principles, gleaned from her initial formation and as an inheritor of the French method, she defines herself as a « minimalist Baucherist ». She gives her teachings equally to amateur riders and sport world professionals ; she breaks in, trains and rehabs an important amount of horses of all breeds, whilst bringing her own personal horses to the intricacies of High School performance. Her rare knowledge of the physical and mental criteria that move horses blends with a subtle but unshakable search for roundness, balance and lightness.
Because I know she is not inclined to present her work for posterity, I thought it time to do this for her, by assembling and publishing a few photos of her already very long evolution. She has granted me the authorization for this project and I thank her for it. I thank also Piotr Wojcik who was kind enough to do what I could not : placing all of these images in a way that will allow you, the viewer, to benefit from this body of work. This informal photo- library will remain live and will be enhanced by any new images that I can garner.
I hope you will gain pleasure by leafing through this album which bears witness to the many different aspects of Bettina’s career: shows, public presentations and daily work.
Wishing you an enjoyable browse through this beautiful equitation !
Bettina passed away on March 28, 2025. For several years, she had been battling the after-effects of Lyme disease and the development of several cancers, which took their toll on her incredible spirit, courage and sense of humour. She will be sorely missed.
